Week 11 - Writing
Advertising Copy/ Promotional Writing/About High-tech
|
Exercise: Most of you will be finishing off previous exercises and preparing your major assignments such as your publication piece and /or performance. But we still have 2 more weeks before I zoom off into the tequila sunset.
Your exercise this week is to write advertising/promotional/high-tech copy that 'sells' a high-tech product or new service. You could invent something new, the sky's the limit except that you have to be able to sell or promote whatever you invent. Think about the difference between advertising and promotion - 'advertising' sells goods, 'promotion' asks the reader to do something, such as send in labels in order to get cashback, or enter a prize draw. However, the line between the two kinds of writing is not all that clear.
There will always be a demand for writers who can simplify or make interesting something quite technical. e.g. the current Love Bug virus and its ramifications (not exactly promotion, more consciousness raising). This is an alternative to the crass world of advertising/promotion.
